DISCOVER THE LATEST CAR INNOVATIONS PRESENTED AT CES 2016

Let’s take a moment to look at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) which took place from 6th to 9th January in Las Vegas.

It’s the world’s biggest electronics and technology trade show, an important place for major companies and industry professionals such as Samsung, Sony and Google. This year, auto technologies were the big topic of the show. Let’s focus on the latest news in the world of connected vehicles…

The future of mobility according to Audi

Audi presented its latest technologies in digitalization of vehicles and piloted driving during the show. Its vision of the cockpit of the future was revealed. Huge touch screens on the dashboard can be connected to the driver’s smartphone and smartwatch to assure continuity in the information. The brand new Audi Fit Driver app makes sure the driver stays healthy, focused and relaxed during his trip by automatically enabling heating of massages for example. Audi also works on autonomous vehicles to improve road safety, efficiency and comfort. Audi cars will feature automatic parkingand automatic pilot in traffic jams in the future

Let's travel in driverless cars!

General Motors announced a new partnership with the American transportation network company Lyft to develop an autonomous car system. The objective is to offer a driverless-cab network in the medium term. They also want to propose a car-sharing platform. Car owners could reduce their running costs by renting their vehicle for short durations. GM brings its experience in the connected field. It has been offering OnStar for 20 years, an onboard connected software with multiple functionalities (SOS call, GPS navigation, antitheft security, hotspot, vehicle diagnostic). We can expect users to change their habits in their trips. How will the vehicles be refueled? Who will take care of the maintenance? Total will have to identify its partners to define its position on an evolving market.

Connect your phone to your car

Ford is going to collaborate with Toyota and PSA to develop a mutual onboard infotainment system. These manufacturers will think about the best way to connect vehicles, the integration of smartphone apps (voice recognition, GPS, music, e-mail, traffic info, park space availability, etc.) while preserving road safety. SmartDeviceLink (SDL) platform launched by Ford is open source to ease the collaboration between the stakeholders. Total could easily use the vehicle’s data (mileage, vehicle’s condition, fuel level, etc.) to send an information at the most relevant moment (“your last refueling with Total Excellium allowed you to save 0.5L/100km”), with call-to-action (“Make an appointment for my oil change with Total app”). Apple and Google try to establish from their part their systems by partnering with GM and Hyundai
